Brownchurch Roof Tent (2001 Model)
This is the current version of the tent, and has been brilliant. I've made a few of my own modifications - I've added a stiffening strip to the base board and chamfered the hinge flange, as well as changing the way the extending arms lock into place - I'll explain this to you if you're interested. I've also replaced the difficult-to-fit guy connectors with elastic loops which saves a few seconds when you put it up.

I've got all the extra fittings which I removed so it worked with the strange roof-rack on the camel, as well as the extra ladder section if you want to mount it on the rear or side. I'll include the bull-bar mounts which I had made up in Morocco. The cover is torn at the corners (Brownchurch can supply a new one if you need it), and there are a few small pin-prick holes at the end which I've covered with duct tape just in case. I also managed to drill a hole into the bottom of the mattress cover.

This is a really comfortable tent, and I was amazed at how it stood up to the test of gales and sand storms. It leaked once in an amazing tropical deluge coming down the Congo by boat, where the rain was coming from the side and getting in under the side window seams - I obviously couldn't turn the car to face the wind, so I got wet... This is a must for this trans-Africa - £350

Jerricans x 6 - 3 new at the start - all with good seals and internals, plus I've got a spare seal. I'll include a filler nozzle. -    £40

Medical Kit
The are on offer by course of treatment, except for the Larium which I'll have to count. These are in their bubble-packs - the boxes are too bulky, but the instructions are included. What's here is what I'd recommend for my sort of trip - I'd ideally like to sell this lot as a package so I can bore the purchaser with my advice on preventative regimes, etc. Except for the Larium which is open to all. Many of these are only available under prescription in the UK.
  • Avomin 25mg - stops nausea

  • 2 x Arsumax 50mg - Also locally recommended as the best way of treating Malaria with zero reported side effects. A tenth of the price of Malarone.

  • Augmentin 375mg - wide spectrum antibiotic

  • worth taking.

  • Imodium 2mg - block you up when you need to travel - I avoid it if I can and let nature take it's course (but I also haven't had any more than minor tummy problems)

  • Larium 250mg - malaria protection, also taste great and make your dreams a whole lot more interesting - there are issues with this drug but it is by and large effective and my body tolerates it well - get informed before you decide as it costs a fortune.

  • Malarone 250mg - suggested by Trailfinders as the best malaria cure - very expensive

  • Sudocrem - From the baby section in Boots - Nappy rash cream - seriously.

  • 2x Bactiflox 500mg* - Antibiotic for bacteria in your gut.

  • 2x Fasigyne 500mg* - Treatment for Guiardia.

  • 2x Vermox 500mg* - For worms.

  • 2 x malaria test kits

Also on offer if you know how to use them:

  • 2 x 500ml Gelofusine

  • 4 x 500ml Haemaccel

  • Assorted canulae and giving sets

Brownchurch Water purifier / shower SOLD
Another brilliant piece of kit that you couldn't do without. It's a 1 micron filter unit that's as good as they get without paying stupid money, and it's driven by a Shurflo pump which is new. I'll throw in some spare ceramic filters. There is a flow control valve which means you can use it as a shower unit as well - and that's the bit that makes the desert countries just about bearable. - £150

(shower mates not included)

I've cut down the original unit to reduce the size and weight, and mine is also plumbed into a 60 litre water tank (plastic) that fits into the boot of a Disco. This system has worked really well for me. the tank is £50
